I admit it: I'm a girl on a budget. A teacher's budge, no less! My empty wallet can be a real drag in the face of Bangkok's glitzy sky bars and luxury shopping malls!
From time to time, though, my friends and I are able to step out of the confines of our budgets and into the world of Bangkok's finest. One such opportunity arose when my friend's parents were in town and offered to take us all out to dinner at a restaurant called Long Table. I'd heard of Long Table before and I was eager to check it out!
Long Table takes its name from the single 25 meter dining table that runs right through the restaurant.
Not only is its table long, the official name of the restaurant is "The Long Table of Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayutthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathayttiya Witsanukam Prasit."

After taking the elevator to the 25th floor of Column Tower, I was immediately awed by the cool atmosphere of Long Table. Bathed in smoky reds light and shadows, Long Table appeared hip and modern. It wasn't crowded on the Saturday night that we visited and this gave us a real feeling of privacy during our stay.
We were led past the electric red bar, which serves cocktails to the theme of "A Taste of the Orient." Popular but not overpowering music mingled with the casual chatter of guests. There was a general unhurried and relaxed pace of the restaurant but also the sense of prompt service.

We were led to our table, which actually wan't the famous Long Table but a deck table outside, overlooking the sparkling lights of Bangkok! I was more than ok with this--the view was amazing! Sitting down with my friends and our special guests, a familiar feeling came over me; I felt so incredibly lucky to be here at this cool restaurant with good people and with a world-class city just over the balcony. It was going to be a very special dinner!

After sitting down, we picked up our menus. I had a hard time choosing as the huge menu offered a variety of Thai and western dishes. To start with, we ordered two appetizers: shrimp spring rolls and spicy Chiang Mai sausage. To drink we ordered bottles of the house white and red wines. Our group toasted with a round of "Cheers" to Bangkok, the view and to ourselves.
|Chiang Mai Sausage. AMAZING!|
For our main courses we ordered mostly Western Food. Although the Gang Phnang Nua Kae Sai Ngor red lamb curry looked tempting, I couldn't pass up the Wagyu Beef Serloin--
it seemed fitting for a special occasion dinner. Four of us ordered steak while two others ordered grilled duck and spring grilled chicken.
I can honestly say that this was the best steak I had eaten in over a year!! It was tender and perfectly seasoned and the 'petite' portion size was more than enough for me. It arrived grilled exactly as I requested, which is indeed a rarity!

Long Table is certainly not a normal dinner destination for my friends and I so we really appreciated the experience. I enjoyed every bite of my steak, every sip of white wine and of course the great company at our table.
